This is the summary of our trip to Italy for the finale round of the 2020 24H Series Europe and Continents championships at the beautiful Mugello racetrack with AC Motorsport team.
The weather and the cold temperatures during all the race meeting did not help us to setup every little things perfectly before the race; despite a full wet private test day on Thursday for Stéphane Perrin and only 50 minutes of session for Mathieu Detry and James Kaye before the race start on a drying track, we managed to have a good package for the race.
With 6 cars in the TCR class over 17 cars overall, the fight promised to be intense for the race class win and both championships. After the first 5 hours, the #188 AC Motorsport Audi RS3 LMS TCR was 5th in the standings, but with a good strategy advantage and good stints by the drivers. On Saturday, the battle was intense until the last 1h30 with still 4 cars fighting for the lead; unfortunately, despite the best race we achieved as a team and a very good drive by Stéphane, Mathieu and James, the only Code 60 of this day cost us the lead fight, allowing our rivals to do their full refueling stop under reduce speed... Luck was not with us, we finished 4th in TCR/TCE class and 7th, which is a good result but we felt of course some deception.
Thanks a lot to the whole AC Motorsport team and to the drivers for their trust for this successful achievement.
